Masseter Injections
The masseter muscle is a rectangular shaped muscle on the side of the jaw - it is the strongest and largest muscle in the face.
Habits such as teeth grinding, gum chewing or jaw tension can lead to overactivity of the masseter muscle, which can cause the muscle to become stronger and bulkier over time, leading to a square, wider lower face. In some cases, it is simply down to genetics and some individuals may naturally have very strong masseter muscles.
Masseter injections offer a non-surgical solution to gently relax this muscle, which over time will reduce the muscle size and create a slimmer, softer and more contoured jawline. Beyond aesthetics, it also helps to alleviate issues like teeth grinding and tension headaches.

• Avoid Blood Thinners: For a week before the procedure, avoid blood thinners such as Aspirin, Clopidogrel, Warfarin, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, and any other anti-coagulant medication. If you have been prescribed such medication by a medical professional, do not cease use without consulting them first.
• Avoid Alcohol: Do not consume alcohol for 48 hours before and after the treatment as it can increase the risk of bruising.
• Overall Health: You must be fit and well for at least two weeks before receiving this treatment. If you are currently unwell or have been unwell recently (including any type of infection or antibiotics), please call the clinic as soon as possible to reschedule your appointment.
• SPF: Apply SPF to your skin daily. Treatment cannot be performed on sunburnt skin.
• Avoid Sun and Heat Exposure: Minimise exposure to the sun and excessive heat to prevent skin irritation and damage. -
• Avoid Touching the Treated Areas: DO NOT touch, rub, massage, or apply pressure to the treated areas. Avoid using makeup or skincare products that require massaging into the skin for the first 24 hours.
• Ensure you do not lay down on your face for at least 3 days post treatment.
• Refrain from consuming alcohol or smoking for 48 hours.
• Blood Thinning Medications: Avoid Aspirin, Clopidogrel, Warfarin, Ibuprofen, or any other blood-thinning medications for 7 days. Be mindful that continuing such medications may increase the likelihood of bruising or bleeding at the injection site.
• Limit Physical Activity: Avoid any exercise or physical activity for 24 hours, and refrain from intense exercise for the next 3 days.
• Avoid Heat Treatments: Avoid heat exposure such as sunbathing, saunas, steam rooms, hot baths, or sunbeds for 3 days after the procedure.
• Makeup: Do not apply makeup for 24 hours. When resuming, ensure your makeup brushes are clean before and after use to prevent infection.
• Change Pillowcase: Change your pillowcase on the day of treatment and try to sleep on your back for the first few days.
• No Hot Compresses: Do not apply any hot compresses to the treated area.
• Avoid Certain Skincare Products: Avoid creams containing Retinol, AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acid), BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acids) or Glycolic Acid around the treated areas for 48 hours.
• Hygiene: Keep the treated area clean to prevent infection. Avoid touching or rubbing the area, especially with unclean hands. Always wash your hands thoroughly before applying any skincare products.

Masseter Injections are generally well-tolerated and most people experience very minimal discomfort. The needles used are very fine, and the treatment is quick, so any sensation typically feels like a small pinch.

There is little to no downtime with Masseter Injections. For the first 24 hours, refrain from massaging your face or engaging in any exercise. It's also recommended to avoid intense exercise for the next 3 days to ensure optimal results. Minor redness or swelling may occur but typically subsides within a few hours.
