Skin Tag Removal
Skin tags are small, soft growths that commonly appear in areas where skin rubs against skin, jewellery, or clothing, such as the neck or underarms. While they are usually harmless, many people find them uncomfortable if they catch on clothing, jewellery, or during shaving. In addition, skin tags can be unsightly, prompting many individuals to seek removal for cosmetic reasons.
India Gabrielle specialises in skin tag removal using the electro-cauterisation method with a Hyfrecator 2000. This highly effective, minimally invasive treatment involves controlled, low-intensity electrical energy that precisely cuts through the tissue, effectively removing the skin tag with minimal discomfort. This treatment is suitable for benign skin tags located on various areas of the body, including the neck, and underarms. We do not treat skin tags on the eye area.
-
Due to the varying nature of this treatment, a prior consultation is required to asses how long the appointment will take and be priced accordingly. The cost and time required will depend on the number and size of skin tags to be removed.
India Gabrielle is MASCED qualified, a professional accreditation that equips practitioners with the necessary knowledge and skills to identify potential skin conditions, including suspicious lesions. While India has undergone MASCED Accreditation to spot potentially concerning growths, it is important to note that she is not a Dermatologist, and therefore cannot diagnose any skin/medical conditions. Therefore, we specialise in the removal of benign skin tags for cosmetic purposes only.
In some cases, if there is any uncertainty about the nature of a lesion, we may require confirmation from a GP or Dermatologist before proceeding with treatment to ensure the skin tag is benign. We do not provide medical removal of lesions, as this should be addressed by a Dermatologist. Your safety and wellbeing are our top priorities, so we always recommend seeking professional medical advice if you have concerns about any growths or changes in your skin.
During your consultation, we will also discuss your medical history to determine your suitability for treatment.

• Avoid Alcohol: Refrain from consuming alcohol for 48 hours before the procedure to minimise the risk of increased bleeding and to support healing.
• Avoid Blood Thinners and Certain Supplements: For a week before the procedure, avoid blood-thinning medications (e.g., Aspirin, Clopidogrel, Warfarin, Ibuprofen) and supplements such as Vitamin E, fish oil, garlic, ginger, ginkgo, liquorice, and green tea. If you are on prescribed blood thinners, you must consult your doctor before discontinuing use. You should be aware that if you take any blood-thinning substances there will be increased likelihood of bleeding at the treatment site(s).
• Sun Protection: Use a high-factor sunscreen daily leading up to the procedure to protect your skin. The treatment cannot be performed on sunburned or heavily tanned skin. The area to be treated must be fully protected from sun and UV exposure before the procedure. Avoid sunbathing and sunbeds in the weeks before treatment.
• Skin Hygiene: Clean the area with water and a gentle cleanser suitable for sensitive skin the day before and on the day of the procedure.
• Avoid Exfoliants: Avoid the use of retinols, exfoliating acids, AHAs/BHAS and any harsh skincare products which may be drying or irritating leading up to the procedure.
• Avoid Tanning Products: Ensure your skin is free from self-tanners, spray tans, or gradual tinted moisturisers before treatment. Discontinue use well in advance. Do not exfoliate or try to remove self-tan a few days before the procedure as this may cause skin irritation.
• Hydration and Nutrition: Drink plenty of water and eat well before your appointment. Avoid arriving on an empty stomach to ensure you're well-prepared for the procedure.
• Products to avoid: Do not apply makeup, creams, or deodorants to the treatment area before your appointment. The area must be clean and dry.
• Avoid Heat Exposure or Exercise: On the day of your appointment, avoid activities that cause heat exposure (e.g., hot showers, steam rooms) or strenuous exercise. -
• Managing Swelling and Redness: Swelling may last up to a week, while redness can persist for approximately 2 weeks. Some individuals may experience prolonged reactions for up to 3-4 months. If redness or swelling persists, or if there are signs of infection (e.g., pain, discharge), contact your practitioner immediately. If any other side effects develop, report them to your practitioner immediately.
• Avoid Alcohol and Smoking: Refrain from alcohol and smoking for at least 48 hours post-treatment to promote healing.
• Skincare Products: Avoid all skincare products, other than those recommended by your practitioner, until skin normalises, as these may irritate the treated area.
• Keep the Area Clean: Use only tepid water for cleaning, and avoid using any soaps (other than those recommended by your practitioner) on the treated area/s until the skin normalises. Pat the area dry—do not scrub.
• Prevent Infection: Minimise the risk of infection by not touching the treated area/s. Ensure you wash your hands regularly, do not allow pets to lick you, change your bedding and towels on the day of the procedure and avoid contact with contaminated surfaces.
• No Makeup: Do not apply makeup on the treated area/s until any scabs have fallen off naturally and the area has fully healed, as this can increase the risk of scarring and pigmentation issues.
• Avoid Exercise and Heat: Avoid strenuous exercise, hot showers, baths, steam rooms, saunas, swimming, and sun exposure for at least 3 days post-treatment or until redness and swelling have subsided. You must also avoid freezing temperatures during the healing period.
• Avoid Hair Removal: Refrain from using electrolysis, depilatory (hair removal) creams, waxing, or laser hair removal for at least 14 days post-treatment or until the skin has fully healed.
• No Plasters or Adhesives: Avoid using plasters or adhesive bandages on the treated area to prevent irritation or infection.
• Sun Exposure: You must avoid tanning products, UV lamps, sun beds or direct sun exposure for 6 weeks post-treatment to reduce the risk of scarring and hyper/hypo-pigmentation.
• Don’t Pick Scabs: Avoid touching, pulling, or picking at any flaking skin or scabs, as this can result in scarring or uneven pigmentation.
• Other Cosmetic Treatments: Avoid additional treatments such as chemical peels, Botox, lasers, or ultrasound-based procedures in the same area for at least 2 months after your last treatment to avoid interference.
• Sun Protection After Healing: Once the skin has healed, apply total sunscreen daily for up to 3 months. Failure to do so can lead to scarring and hyper/hypo-pigmentation.
• Potential Side Effects: There is a risk of scarring, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation and other undesired effects, however these risks are greatly increased if the aftercare instructions are not strictly adhered to. Following our instructions can greatly reduce these risks.
